Relevant partners and sectors

Organic waste and residual resources are converted into renewable energy and valuable by-products.

Biomethane as a renewable fuel for heavy transport, providing lower emissions and high operational reliability.

Local resource utilisation that reduces waste volumes and contributes to emission reductions.

Biogas plants are an important partner in processing residual products from both sea-based and land-based aquaculture.

Biomethane delivers significant emission reductions for international shipping and marine transport.
Frequently Asked Questions
Biomethane is produced from organic materials and feedstocks that would otherwise have generated significant greenhouse gas emissions if not managed through a biogas plant. By processing these materials, we reduce methane emissions to the atmosphere and convert them into biomethane.
When biomethane is used as fuel, the resulting CO₂ emissions are significantly lower than those associated with fossil energy sources. As a result, biomethane can be carbon-neutral and, in many cases, highly carbon-negative.
These environmental benefits are verified through approved certification schemes in accordance with the EU Renewable Energy Directives (RED II and RED III) and relevant national certification systems.
In addition, organic materials from slaughterhouses, food waste, aquaculture and industrial by-products of biological origin can be used.
Only feedstocks that do not have a more beneficial alternative use, such as food, animal feed or similar applications, are utilised.
Biofertilizer is just as important as the energy production from our plants.
Because the feedstocks used in biomethane production are of organic origin, they contain nutrients that are valuable for agriculture and local food production.
Most biofertilizer is in liquid form, making it easy to spread on farmland. It contains higher concentrations of plant nutrients than conventional livestock manure. This enables many farmers to reduce their use of synthetic fertilizers, lowering costs while also reducing CO₂ emissions.
Norway has strict regulations governing the production and use of biofertilizer, and all our biofertilizer products comply with the requirements set by authorities and the agricultural sector.
The environmental benefits depend on the customer's current energy source, but biomethane will at a minimum provide carbon-neutral energy.
In many cases, our customers purchase biomethane with substantial carbon-negative properties, meaning that the CO₂ savings exceed the emissions generated when the biomethane is used.
This is reflected through a negative Carbon Intensity (CI) score, which can be used in carbon accounting, emissions reporting, quota management or mass balance systems within a company's portfolio.
